Zambia produces an estimated 80,000 metric tons of plastic waste annually. Of this, only 10% is collected and properly disposed of leaving the remaining 90% to contaminate the environment. Around 2,400 tons of this plastic waste finds its way into our vital ecosystems each year.
On 12 September 2024, we are proud to have launched the GREEN HOSPITALITY service in our Zambia office. Through this service, we are working with partner hospitality establishments such as lodges, hotels, restaurants, and cafes, to forgo PET-bottled water in favour of WfW-branded reusable glass bottles. These bottles are filled with locally filtered, high-quality water as an alternative option to plastic bottled water. A portion of the revenue collected from the sales will go towards supporting local WASH and climate-focused activities. With 1,000 refills can precycle more than 2,000 plastic bottles, significantly reducing plastic pollution.
Patrons at the establishments will have the option to order filtered water served in WfW-branded bottles and in doing so will play their part in reducing plastic waste and keeping water and sanitation access points unblocked. They will also support WfW’s efforts to continue providing sustainable water access in structurally disadvantaged peri-urban areas.
Seven HOSPITALITY partners have signed up so far, which include Chaminuka Luxury Lodge, The Nkosi Livingstone Lodge and Spa, Nomad’s Court Lodge, Crest Lodge, Golden Days Lodge, Palmwood Lodge, and The Sissing Sanctuary.
